Christmas Ornaments Make Me Smile

11/30/2011 14:39
Woohoo! It's holiday season!I'm so excited for the holidays this year. I'm taking a trip to visit some relatives that I haven't seen in a long time, should be fun. I was thinking about getting some Christmas ornaments to help decorate their tree. Like this one?

Glenn Brown

The painter Glenn Brown is a contemporary. Born in 1966 in Northumberland, England, he was nominated for the famous Turner Prize in 2000. His works often recall the work of Dali or Rembrandt. Glenn Brown keeps a unique and personal relationship to his art. The picture-like illustration is affected by softness, the turbulence and the ability to paint singular universe. This aesthetic is worth gold today.

Bet you didn't think of this.

This made me go WHOA:

This is a unique art installation entitled “Zapatos que rompen el silencio” (2007; Shoes that break the Silence) by Antonio Gonzales Paucar. You know what those little dots are made of? Flies. Yes. Doesn't it blow your mind? I remember animations when a person dissolves and usually it's made out of pixels, particles, butterflies or any other symbol. Haven't seen flies. Somehow it feels...apt.

About the artist’s solo show (from Galerie Davide Gallo):

(…) In his most recent work, Antonio Paucar faces and examines themes dear to South American culture: first of all, poetry as an expressive vehicle for the common consciousness of a people; second, memory associated with travel, and third travel as a way of researching lost time.
(…)
Insect chirps, toad croaks and cries of birds in Antonio Gonzales Paucar’s work evoke ‘noise scenes’ resembling the Amazoian rain forest. The irritating, muddling sound fields result from precise, strained central themes, meticulous, as well as from equalizing sound-bodies from cans and hoses, and are like glowing, crackling bath salts. These are the sound experiments of Antonio Gonzales Paucar following extensive research that was conducted without technical support using nature and industrial materials. In this magnetic field between nature and domesticated culture arise video works such as “Composicion Manual” (2007), which is a refined register of sound produced by the artist using daily objects and selfconstructed instruments. Alterations of images and shrinking sequences generates a confusing and dizzying sound picture carousel.

Cool

This is really cool. Reminds me of jazz and soul artists.

Digital art by Yoaz

Yoaz is 22 years old and got involved in the digital art from about two years ago, when he started to paint characters. His inspirations are Picasso for the way he treats portraits. In this article you would find a collection of his great artworks. (via)

Digital Art

These days artists consider the computer the ultimate tool. With just a click of a mouse you can create art. Of course it takes talent and skill and a lot of hard work, too. Anyway, I love this:

Art Nouveau

09/09/2011 23:19

Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939 ) was a Czech Art Nouveau painter and decorative artist. By the time of his death, Mucha's style was considered outdated. However, his son, author Jiri Mucha, devoted much of his life to writing about him and bringing attention to his art. Interest in Mucha's distinctive style experienced a strong revival in the 1960s (with a general interest in Art Nouveau) and is particularly evident in some psychedelic posters. (via)
